Anubis is the Greek name of a god associated with mummification and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion, usually depicted as a canine or a man with a canine head.
Now, the artists at ECC are rediscovering the history of Mythology, finding in it inspiration for the reimagining of these characters. From a fascination with the natural world, the intricacies of geometric design, heroic tales of gods and monsters, to a passion for the human form and the Classical Style, the Anubis bust is one of the most carefully and subtly conceived sculptures ECC has created to date.
The Anubis is the third character designed and created by Miyo Nakamura for ECC's Myth line, and is also the centerpiece of our Elite Arts Collection.
Message from Anubis: "Dear one, Death is a constant, as is life. Every moment fades. There in lies the beauty. Constant scrutiny of every moment is folly. We must learn to let go of older versions of ourselves. That is where I come in. Allowing the old versions of you to die, the versions of yourself that no longer resonate. With grace I can help you transition, give you guidance on the passage to the new you. Proudly, I stand by. Watching over you."
From the artist, Miyo Nakamura: "I wanted to sculpt Anubis ever since he appeared to me as one of my spirit guides during my meditation. I feel there is a certain kismet nature, having sculpted him in 2020 where so much of our shadow aspects in our society are becoming more visible in the collective consciousness. Systematic racism, human-rights, animal-rights, environmental care. I believe Anubis is here to guide us in letting go of realities that no longer work so that change may take place. In my own personal life, I am learning about myself and am having to constantly re-write my belief system. My wish is that he provides guidance for you as well!"
